Website Launch and First Ever Sale!

Hi friends! 🌈

I'm extremely grateful to be sharing my website with you all today! It was a lot of behind the scenes work, but I feel incredibly proud about The Rainbow Crow. This is my platform to not only showcase a selection of my portfolio, as well as sell postcards and prints (and possibly other merch in future!), but also to discuss some things in the worlds of birding and social justice - and how those two worlds collide more often than one may think.

Being autistic, disabled, and trans have always been core parts of my birding identity and why I watch and feed crows to begin with. But the crows themselves also had a massive part to play in my journey to empowerment, and reclamation of oppressive or violent experiences. Becoming the bird oddity helped me reclaim the strangeness and violence of being visibly autistic and trans in public, and I want to give back by showing the world how much beauty they can find among the city streets if only we would remember to look up.

So what better way to launch a website than with a small sample sale?! And what better charity to support than The African Rainbow Family? The African Rainbow Family is a charity which supports and aims to increase the health and well-being of African LGBTIQ refugees and people seeking asylum in the UK. Their work is not only incredibly important, but is also being led and run by the people affected by those very issues. All the profits from the postcard sale will go directly to them.

The postcards are a test run of 37 produced in 2019. This is partially to test how popular they are for future sales, and to get rid of some old ones that have been lying around. If all goes well, I'll continue to produce and sell the most popular postcards as well as new designs from new photos!

If you have any ideas for merch you'd like to see in the future, please let me know! I'm considering creating a calendar for 2021, as well as potentially some holographic Rainbow Crow stickers! For now, the sale is limited to the UK only due to COVID-19 and my being immunocompromised, but I hope to expand to international at some point.

If you ever want a print of any photo I've posted on here or on any social media, please feel free to drop me an email or a Twitter DM and we can chat about it.

Take care and have a day as fabulous as you deserve,

Christopher Olive 🖤
